Personal profile

Dr. Adnan Ahmad Cheema obtained BSc in Computer Engineering from the COMSATS University, Pakistan and MSc in Signal Processing for Communication from the King’s College London, UK. He has a Ph.D. degree in Electronics Engineering from the Durham University, UK, in 2015 and worked in Durham as a postdoctoral research associate on a project funded by OFCOM, UK, dealing with the 5G radio propagation channel measurements and modeling (sub 6 GHz and 24-90 GHz). He joined the Ulster University, UK, as a lecturer in Electronics Engineering.

Research Interests

He is currently leading the Sensing and Communication (SenComm) research lab, part of NIBEC research centre.  The SenComm research lab mainly working in following areas of wireless communication and radar systems:

  • Radio propagation channel (e.g. 5G and beyond, flying base stations (UAV) and building entry loss)
  • Cognitive radio (e.g. wideband spectrum sensors and dynamic spectrum access)
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Channel sounder (in sub 6 GHz and mmWave bands)
  • Radar systems and AI (e.g. human activity detection and classification)

His work has been part of various ITU recommendations (e.g. 1238 and 1411) and 5G specifications. More information can be found here [Google Scholar]

In addition to standard equipments (e.g. spectrum analyzer, VNA and function generators), he has  developed additional resources like anechoic chamber, channel sounder (at 3.5 GHz), mono-static radar systems (at 4/24/120 GHz), a bi-static radar system (at 4 GHz) and a drone (hexacopter) to support potential research areas in wireless communication and radar systems.

Potential research students:

I am always looking for potential research students in areas of wireless communication, radar systems and signal processing. Please drop your CV via email and I will be happy to assist with funding, if available
