Personal profile

Biography

Trained as a Registered Sick Children's Nurse I cared for children and their families in Paediatric Intensive care and Burns and Reconstructive Surgery. I developed my career into education based on my interest in learning and teaching and I'm currently a lecturer in higher education practice in Ulster University.
I am interested in pedagogy and the influence it has over practice in higher education. I am also fascinated by academic self-efficacy and the influence it has on decision making and professional practice. I like to think I'm methodologically flexible and am driven by validity.

 

Research Interests

My research interests centre upon pedagogy and the effect it has on student learning and how this affects professional practice. I also am interested in academic self-efficacy, the factors that enhance or inhibit it's development and the impact this has on professional practice in terms of self regulation.

Teaching Interests

As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, (SFHEA), my teaching interests focus upon pedagogy and learning and teaching methods. I teach curriculum design, learning outcome construction, assessment design, understanding and enhancing student engagement and evaluation techniques.

I am the Course Director for the postgraduate certificate in education for healthcare professionals and I teach assessment redesign on the MEd.
