Personal profile


Dr Caterina Brandoni is a lecturer in Energy. She is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is currently the Athena Swan Champion of the Belfast School of Architecture and the Built Environment.

She has specific technical expertise and 15 years’ experience in energy management and modelling of different energy systems. Her scientific activities contribute to three main research areas: i) energy and water nexus, ii) renewable energy integration, iii) energy policy and life cycle assessment. She has been working on multi-partner collaborative projects to develop and exploit energy savings and renewable energy technologies, covering all aspects of optimisation, techno-economic modelling and life cycle analysis.

She has acted as PI and Co-I of several research projects funded by H2020, INTERREG, UKERC/EPSRC and other funding organisations, e.g. H2020 ANICA (£163k), H2020 ALICE/GA734560 (900k euros), INTERREG SPIRE II/ (6.3M euros).

She was a member of the Editorial board “Proceeding of Civil Engineers – Energy” from 2015 to 2019.

She has acted as an external expert for the EU Commission to assist in the evaluation of H2020 grant applications and a reviewer for the 2020 annual call of the Swedish Research Council in the area of the Built Environment.
