Personal profile

Louise completed her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology with Prof. Paul Thomas at the University of Adelaide, which investigated infantile epilepsy, as well as mouse genome editing using Cas9 variants with altered PAM recognition. During this time, she also worked at the SA Genome Editing facility, assisting in the design and production of genetically modified mice. She then became a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Adelaide in the Genome Editing Laboratory, with Prof. Thomas, studying DNA repair following CRISPR/Cas9 editing.

She is now a postdoctoral research associate with Prof. Tara Moore in Ulster University developing cutting edge genetic therapies for corneal dystrophies using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technology.

In 2020, Louise volunteered her molecular biology expertise at Randox Laboratories to assist in the rapid scale-up of COVID-19 testing, before moving onto the Ulster PANDEMIC study team working alongside Professor Moore in the laboratory to develop COVID-19 antibody point-of-care diagnostics.
