Personal profile


Mark Donnelly joined School of Computing and Mathematics in July 2009 and was promoted to the Senior Lecturer in 2014. He is member of the Smart Environments Research Group (SERG) within the Computer Science Research Institute. Mark’s research and teaching interests surround Pervasive and Mobile Computing, and Behaviour Monitoring and Interpretation. He is particularly focused on developing assistive technologies to support data collection, self-management and decision support for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders. He has been an investigator on a number of external projects including those funded by UK EPSRC, NI Health and Social Care (HSC), Alzheimer’s Association, Big Lottery Fund and EU AAL, LLP and FP7 programmes.Mark is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Mark received the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (First class) in 2004 from Ulster prior and undertaking his PhD there, which focused on optimizing ECG electrode placement for detecting cardiac dysfunction. From 2007-2009, he worked as a Research Associate on a number of externally funded projects that investigated the development of assistive technologies to support independent living for people with dementia.From 2011-2015, Mark served on the board of directors for European Society for Engineering and Medicine and is, at present, a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Healthcare Engineering.
