This paper investigates the behaviour of a linear trip time model that is widely used in traffic network modeling. The paper presents analytical and computational results for particular forms of inflow onto the stretch of road, and these are used to highlight both the physical meaning of model parameters and potential pathological behaviour of the model during rapidly changing inflows. The paper has been cited by the Transportation Research Group at the University of California, Davis.
