Identity in global crisis

Abstract

My project will be one huge installation of fragmented images and objects in a space. According to the viewers position fragments will connect and become a clear image. I am going to use different materials as: Photo, found objects video footage and sculpture. It will refer to creation of myth and local identity, the alchemy of infiltration and control through images. Globalisation at the moment is an economical term, which does not fit for a description of human interaction. The post modern concept of multiple realities describes the confusion in the best manner. Within the word confusion I describe the root of contemporary crisis of identity which can be a great chance for a peaceful future. In this exhibition I will refer to the last Book of Umberto Eco, ”The Prague Cemetery”, it describes the phenomena of myth and identity building. “We need an enemy to give people hope. Someone said that patriotism is the last refuge of cowards: those without moral principles usually wrap the flag around themselves, and bastards always talk about the purity of races. National identity is the last bastion of the dispossessed. But the meaning of identity is now based on hatred, on hatred for those who are not the same……Hatred has to be cultivated as a civic passion. The enemy is the friend of the people. You always want someone to hate in order to feel justified in your own misery. Hatred is the true primordial passion.”
