This volume covers approaches concerning the relation between innovation in cinema and politics of filmmaking in new cinema practices in Turkey. The study focuses on historiography, genres, mainstream and art cinema production, transnational cinema, as well as changing narratives and identities. A new cinema is defined through what is deemed as old and new cinema movements declare principles on what not to do as well as promises on what they intend to achieve. The new cinema is analysed from perspectives of new technologies. New production and distribution structures, impact of film training, a televisual industry, new actors in commercial and art cinema as well as impact of the film festival circuit are also discussed. Recurring themes of memory, trauma, and identity are dealt from multidisciplinary angles.
