N2 - The biocontrol fungus Cladorrhinum foecundissimum isolated from the soil collected from the canola field in Vegreville, Alberta, Canada, was studied for the production of endo-1,4-beta-glucanase enzyme. The production of the enzyme was significantly stimulated in cellulose-containing medium. Relatively high levels of enzyme activity were produced on L-sorbose and xylan, while moderate enzyme activity was detected using as substrates carboxymethylcellulose, laminarin and cellobiose. Maximum mycelial growth occurred in 8 d of cultivation while maximum enzyme yield was achieved in 9-10 d of fermentation. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
