Sports, the 'State' and Peace Building in Northern Ireland

Katie Liston, Stephen Bloomer

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Liston and Bloomer discuss sports and peace building
in Northern Ireland at both the governmental and grassroots
levels. They contend that on a political level, sports functions as
a safe, largely unquestioned, and vague symbol of peace. Liston
and Bloomer conclude with future challenges of the sports-for-peace
(SfP) view and the position of sports as both a problem
and a solution.
