Water Table’ Install-action, as part of ‘State of Move’ Performance Art Festival, Puritismo, The Cable Factory, Tallberginkatu 1, Helsinki, Finland. (30.11.18). Organised by John Court, Thomasz Szarma & Elini Tsitsirikou.Water Table PerformanceI chose a specific location for this work on arrival in the Cable Factory in Helsinki. It was a durational artwork and involved the slow lifting of a table using clamps and wooden batons added to the legs. Lengths of wood were clamped in turn onto the table legs and longer lengths were added as the table was lifted. Over time, (four hours), the table reached a height over three meters. Several objects were placed on the tabletop e.g. a silver ball on a silver tray, a bowl of water and several evergreen tree branches. A plumb-line was slung below the table, its other end connected to a money tin, via the roof structure. The silver ball on the tray and the plumb-line emphasised the changing tilts of the table as the performance proceededA series of A4 Prints on environmental issues, were attached, in turn, to each length of wood as they were used in the raising of the table. Water formed a core element within the artwork. it was on the table top and also an adjacent tap was running slowly, spilling water across the floor of the space. The table became rather unstable as it was raised over time, and my movements and adjustments become crucial and sensitive within the artwork.
